OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Health Information Research, Inc (HIR). is a 501 c3, not-for-profit organization that provides medical and health information for patients and/or their families. In addition to providing the requested information, HIR also assists its clients in interpreting and analyzing the information as it relates to their personal circumstances. The pace of new developments accelerates. However, new does not always equate with better. Often, wider usage of a "new" drug will produce unforeseen side effects. Or the efficacy of the drug is reduced by the body's adaptation to it.
Constant reading and contact with the newest literature will often reveal these developments. HIR, Inc. makes its clients aware when such things happen to a drug the patient may be taking.
Dialogue to help clarify the client's own specific situation can be invaluable. Guidance in framing the best questions for the patient to pose to his/her physician is important. HIR strives to do this for all of its clients.
CANCER SCREENING- THE CURRENT DILEMMA
There is currently a raging debate going on concerning the value of prostate screening with PSA. Organizations that heretofore promoted the idea of PSA screening as a life-saving process are re-thinking and changing their positions as new research is published that challenges the whole testing paradigm. Even the "holy mammogram" for breast cancer is coming under challenge. Too many false positives and false negatives have cast shadows of doubt over the procedures. In late November, 2009, even the idea of breast self-examination by women is being challenged by some in the medical community...
THIS WEB SITE WILL COVER THE DEBATE AND PUBLISH RELIABLE COMMENTARY AS THE ARGUMENTS DEVELOP.
DISCLAIMER: This site does not offer medical advice. Readers are urged to do their own research on any aspect of Prostate Health or cancer of interest and to CONSULT WITH THEIR OWN PHYSICIAN(S) BEFORE MAKING TREATMENT DECISIONS...
